Tera Wiseman, May 2004

My name is Tera Wiseman and I live in Brighton, Illinois.  I am a stay-at-home mom to my two children, Sawyer and Sheridan, and wife to my husband, David.  While most of my time is spent taking care of the family, we are getting ready to start a new church in Brighton, Illinois, as a mission project supported by our home church, Alton First Southern Baptist, in Alton, Illinois.  I also help out at my son's school, am a mentor for the local high school, and wrote last year for our local newspaper.  I love to write and am aspiring to do so professionally.

Our little farmhouse

I grew up in Rosewood Heights, Illinois, just across the river from St. Louis, Missouri.  I attended Roxana schools, which is where I developed an interest in writing, typing, and computers.  I took a computer class in college, but eventually quit college to join the workforce.

During that time, I gained a lot of "hands-on" experience in developing computer documents.  I now have the capabilities to make simple word processing documents, spreadsheets, databases, etc., but I excel at making color flyers with graphics, altering pictures and making GIF animations, custom wedding invitations, bulk mailings, address labels, newspaper ads, business or personal letterhead, and resumes.

My family and I live in a little farmhouse with four acres and a barn.  We are slowly but surely renovating our home and we sincerely hope this is our last place of residence.  We like to tell people that we have our own little piece of heaven out here in the "boonies."  If the Lord had made heaven on earth, this would definitely be the location.

While our lives are full with keeping up with our property, our children and church family keep us busy as well.  Our eight-year-old son, Sawyer, is an imaginative little boy who loves his Gameboy and can whack a baseball like nobody's business.  My husband and I have decided that he will fund our retirement by receiving a lucrative ten-year, $30 million contract with the St. Louis Cardinals! If not, he'll race professionally in the NHRA...his grandpa bought him a junior dragster for Christmas....that should be a good start!

Our daughter, Sheridan, is a four-year-old spitfire who never stops moving and is extremely bright.  She just finished pre-school and is interested in cheerleading, dancing, and gymnastics.  While she is quite a tomboy (her favorite activities are playing in the dirt or mud or rocks, collecting bugs of all sorts, and wrestling), she has her girlie moments as well.  She loves Disney Princesses and will actually sit still while you curl her hair or paint her nails!

The Bridge

I recently became intrigued by covered bridges.  I was looking at all these pictures of bridges on the internet and found myself realizing the significance of a bridge.  A bridge gets you from one place to another.  From one side to the next.  From Point A to Point B.  While you're on the bridge, it may be cold, dark, and frightening.  You may not be able to see your own hand in front of you, but, trusting that you will come out on the other side, you keep walking....one step after another, forging through the darkness with the faith that the end is somewhere in sight.  When we are traveling on that "life" bridge, we may be in total darkness.  We may not know which end is up or where we'll be lead, but we have faith that the end is there and we will reach it.  That's the only thing that keeps us walking along in the darkness....resting our feet upon a floor we can't see....hearing our footsteps, feeling our chest rise and fall in the silence, sometimes running our hand along the rough, wooden walls for guidance....we believe with every fiber in our being that the light at the end of the tunnel will come.  You know why we believe that?  Because the Holy Spirit is there every step of the way, with His hands outstretched under ours, supporting our weight when we're unsure of our footing, and relaxing His grip when the end is in sight. God never lets go, He's just strengthening His grip.
